  Giant Siamese Carp Fishing Package

The elusive Giant Siamese Carp, the most prized Carp specie in the world and also the biggest carp species in the world. With fish like this in Thailand, we often wonder why people still want to fish for carp anywhere else!

The Giant Siamese Carp (Catlocarpio siamensis) can in the big rivers of Thailand and Vietnam reach the weight of 300 kg. They are these days extremely rare as pollution and excessive commercial fishing for them has nearly wiped them out from their natural habitat. Fortunately for anglers they have been successfully bred and been stocked in many lakes around Thailand. Stocked fish have been caught up to 120kg size (Bungsam Lan). When fishing for very big Giant Siamese Carp in Bungsam Lan, we use strong 7-8ft. long rods and the biggest Shimano 6500B Baitrunners, total concentration is required during the fight, one wrong move that gives the fish a fraction of a second and he will "do you," straight away. In the Krabi Lake where there are not so many snags as in Bungsam Lan, it is possible to use equipment similar to the ones used by European carp anglers. The Krabi Lake has also been stocked with the hard fighting Jullien’s Golden Price Carp up to 40 lb.

The Siamese giant carp the world’s largest species of carp can be 3 m (10 ft) and 300 kg (660 lb). The Thai Name for the Siamese Giant Carp is Pla Caho. A very desirable food fish in Asia, sometimes eaten fresh or pickled. They are migratory fish that are found only in the Mae Klong, Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins. They are usually found in the big pools along the edges of large rivers, but will seasonally enter smaller canals, floodplains and flooded forests. Juvenile Siamese carps are usually found in smaller tributaries and swamps, but can acclimatize to living in ponds, canals and swamps. These are migratory fish, swimming to favorable areas for feeding they breed in October they do not spawn in still waters. There head is rather large for the body and they have huge mouths.

Jullien’s Golden Price Carp (Probarbus jullieni) One of the prettiest of all carp species. The Thai name for this fish is: Pla Yissok Thai. Can be up to 150 cm, max. Published weight is 70 kg. A migratory fish that are found in: Mekong, Chao Phraya and Meklong basins of Indo-China and Thailand, and the Pahang and Perak basins of Malaysia. Inhabits mainly the mainstream of large rivers with sand or gravel substrates and abundant mollusks populations. Occurs in deep slow reaches. Feeds on aquatic plants, insects and shelled mollusks. Spawns in winter (late December-early February) in big riverine deltas over sand and gravel substrate with water current of 1.3 m/sec. Undertakes spawning and trophic migrations in the Mekong basin. Trophic migrations occurs throughout its occurrence range which takes place mainly at the onset of the flood season and are mainly undertaken by juveniles and sub adults. Upstream spawning migrations take place between October and February from Kompong Cham in Cambodia to Chiang Khong in Thailand. At Chiang Khong, fishermen reported that Probarbus moves up the tributary Nam Ta in Laos to breed in March-April. An excellent food fish, sometimes consumed raw, but rather scarce so it fetches a high market price. Eggs are especially priced. In the Mekong River this important fisheries species is under serious long-term decline and this decline evidently is basin wide and the most obvious (but not necessarily only) reason is overfishing with gillnets during the reproductive migrations and spawning periods. Attains 70 kg or more, but mostly marketed size nowadays are 5-20 kg. A very strong fighter, with long fast powerful runs. We have caught them on similar baits we use for the Siamese Giant Carp (maize, boilies and pop-ups)
